Content

This course allows students to use mathematical skills in practical problem-based ways to solve everyday problems.  

Topics may include:

  • Financial mathematics
  • Measurement
  • Basic calculations with and without a calculator
  • Statistics

Assessment 

Skills and applications tasks  75%

  • Three tasks - 6 to 9 pages each
Mathematical investigation  25%
  • One written task - maximum 6 A4 pages

Additional Information

Students will need access to a scientific calculator (recommended Casio fx-82AU PLUS II). Students must achieve a C grade in 10 credits of year 11 Mathematics to meet the Numeracy requirement of the SACE.

Students will be enrolled in Mathematics classes based on teacher recommendations and parent approval. Teacher recommendations are based on previous achievements, PAT results and career pathways. Negotiations can be made if a specific pathway is required for students.
