Content

Students will explore various topics, including goat and sheep production, hydroponics, and pig welfare. They will develop knowledge underpinning each topic and improve their literacy, numeracy, critical and creative thinking, ICT skills, teamwork, safety around animals, and ethical and intercultural understandings.  

Topics may include:

  • Goats: Royal Adelaide Show preparation, goats judging, vaccination and drenching, goat breeding and breeders
  • Sheep production: Numeracy task
  • Hydroponics: Hydroponics vs. conventional vegetable growing, growing requirement for plants to thrive, parts of hydroponics system, data collection
  • Pig SHE topics: Feral pigs in Australia, pig organ xenotransplantation medical breakthroughs, debate on xenotransplantation, the popularity of pork as a source of protein in Australia vs the world

Assessment

Tasks may include:

  • Goats: Knowledge for Royal Adelaide Show preparation task
  • Sheep production: Lamb growth numeracy tasks
  • Hydroponics: Vegetable growing and understanding task
  • Pig SHE presentation, pick one of three topics
