Content

In this course, students develop the knowledge, skills, and understandings required to explore and analyse influences and make informed decisions regarding health and wellbeing through five assessment tasks. They consider the role of health and wellbeing in various contexts and explore ways of promoting positive outcomes for individuals, communities, and global society, emphasising incorporating health determinants, inequities, barriers, and strategies. 

Assessment

Assessment type 1: Initiative  40%

  • Individual – personal health action -1500 words or 9 minutes
    Students will plan and implement a 4-week program to reach a chosen health goal and evaluate the initiative's success. 
  • Collaboration – health expo - 1500 words or 9 minutes
    In small groups, students will develop activities for a lunchtime event to improve health outcomes. Students will provide evidence of research, planning, and assessment of the target group's needs.

Assessment type 2: Folio  30%

  • Risk-related trauma -1000 words or 6 minutes
    Students choose an issue related to risky behaviours. They will analyse the scale and trends of the issue. Students will evaluate the program and suggest improvements.
  • Platforms for change -1000 words or 6 minutes
    Students explore the concept of human rights and identify an issue they care about and want to address. Using a social media platform, they will design a campaign that advocates for change on a global level.

Assessment type 3: Inquiry  30%

  • Health issue inquiry -2000 words or 12 minutes
    Students independently research a contemporary health and wellbeing issue, develop a question or hypothesis, and investigate, analyse, and make recommendations about it.
