Content

This course is divided into Food Technology and Fabric/Textiles Technology.  

The Food Technology component aims to build upon knowledge and understanding of basic life skills essential to become informed consumers. Students will be introduced to supermarket advertising tactics, nutrition labels and how to interpret them, and how to select appropriate foods for better health and nutrition. Students broaden their understanding of food culture around the world, including contemporary food trends, meal planning and the hospitality industry.  

In Fabric/Textiles Technology, students explore real artists and designers in the areas of street art, stencilling, dyeing and fibre construction. They research and practise a variety of crafts such as macramé, weaving, and other fibre techniques.

Assessment

Tasks may include:

  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Design: My Café
  • Investigation: Food and/or Textiles sustainability 
  • Practicals: Food preparation, dying fabric, stencilling using fabric paint, designing a weaving loom, tie-dyeing and fabric decorations

Additional Information

Students may need to supply their own fabric and commercial patterns where directed.
