Design and Technology

Design and Technology include two main subject areas - Design and Technology and Digital Technology. Students work individually and collaboratively to investigate, design, plan, manage, create and evaluate physical and digital solutions.

Digital Technology focuses on computer science networking and general computer programming concepts.

Topics may include:

• Network topology
• Use of block coding to programme a moving robot

Design and Technology focuses on safely using selected machines and tools in the workshop. Students use timber, adhesives and machines, including a disk sander and drill press to produce a project.

Topics may include:

• Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements
• Material properties 
• Selection, cutting, joining of timber

Assessment

In Digital Technologies, tasks may include:

• Graphical representation of networks
• Programming a robot using light, sound and ultrasonic sensors to complete a range of challenges

In Design and Technology, tasks may include:

• Safety worksheets
• Passive speaker construction
• Evaluation of the product and construction process
