Content

Guided by the students' own interests and strengths, they will explore an area of interest in-depth, while developing skills to prepare them for further education, training, and work. Students will apply the SACE framework as a guide to develop their research and chosen capability. They will develop their ability to question sources of information, make effective decisions, evaluate their own progress, be innovative, and solve problems.  

The Research Project enables students to:

  • Apply knowledge and skills specific to their research topic
  • Develop planning and investigate in-depth an area of interest
  • Evaluate the research processes they use, through which they demonstrate an understanding of how they addressed opportunities and challenges that presented themselves through the project

Assessment

Folio  30%

  • Includes preliminary ideas and research proposal, research development and discussion  
Research Outcome  40% 
  • 1500 words
Review  30%
  • 1500 words or 10-minute oral presentation or multimodal equivalent  
Note: External assessment must have a 150 word written summary that describes the research question and the outcome.

Additional Information

Students have a choice to undertake one of two versions of this subject, Research Project A or Research Project B, both of which contribute to an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).  The Research Project is a compulsory SACE subject where students are required to achieve a C- grade or better in order to achieve SACE completion.
