Content

Physical Education B can be taken as a stand-alone subject or in addition to Physical Education A. It shares some similarities to Physical Education A. However, it provides different sporting contexts, learning experiences and assessments. Students learn a range of authentic sports, theme-based games, laboratories, fitness, and recreational activities. These activities are negotiated based on class size, student interest and the availability of facilities.

Students apply their understanding of movement concepts to evaluate aspects of their own or others’ physical activity and reflect on strategies to improve participation and performance. Technology is used to collect, collate and analyse data such as video footage, heart rates, fitness tests and game statistics. Students apply their understanding of movement concepts to evaluate the data and reflect on ways in which improvements in performance and participation can be achieved.

Assessment

Physiology and Performance Improvement  50%

  • During this practical unit, students explore, reflect on, and analyse the performance of one identified student. The analysis of the performance of movement concepts and strategies for the individual may include; spatial awareness, decision-making, game understanding and/or movement strategies. Students present an engine room analysis of the individuals’ performance (e.g. a sports commentator style analysis) and reflect on ways in which performance improvement could be achieved - 1500 words or 9 minutes multimodal.
Modified Games Participation Analysis  50%
  • Students explore in detail one modified game that they have participated in to analyse how the modifications to this specific game have impacted inclusivity and in-game participation. Data is collected to support the analysis, including; game statistics, movement data and physiological demands - 1500 words or 9 minutes multimodal.

Additional Information

Practical participation is an essential element of the curriculum. Students who cannot take part on medical/health grounds require notes from parents.
