Content

Students will develop their software development skills by investigating, designing and planning a 2D computer game for a young audience. The computer game is to be designed for mobile, so a game engine (Godot) will be used.

Topics may include:

  • Collaborative research of a game setting and its associated ethics for a young audience
  • Familiarisation with the game engine (Godot) through a series of programming tasks
  • Designing a simple game for children
  • Advanced programming of the game 

Assessment

Project Skills  50%

  • Investigation – PowerPoint of findings – slides and discussion of possible game ideas, characters and obstacles, with ethical considerations. (5 minutes maximum)
  • Programming – Complete one or more Godot tutorials, identifying components needed for a simple mobile game
  • Design Brief and Design Folio – full video game description, sketches, game mechanics and necessary sprites. Includes documentation of the concepts learnt during the Godot tutorials, planning, proposed algorithms and possible data structures needed for the game. A Gannt chart is included for the development of the game.

Digital Solutions  50%

  • Advanced Programming - Full Game Development with evaluation - multimodal (3 minutes) or written (500 words)

Additional Information

Successful completion of Year 10 Digital Technology is assumed.
