Content

This subject has a focus on vehicle systems. Students will study various systems (brake system and how to maintain them, as well as performing fault-finding tasks and completing written reports on the systems studied.

Vehicle systems may include:

  • Brake system
  • Cooling system
  • Fuel system
  • Combustion system
  • Ignition system
  • Steering/suspension system

Assessment

Specialised Skills Tasks  40%

  • Part 1: Measurement and Skills Exercise  20%
Students will measure components, for example, bore and crank wear, under guided instruction. They apply skills, processes and techniques and compare findings with manufacturers' specifications - maximum 500 or 3-minute equivalent.
  • Part 2: Investigation and Analysis - fault finding  20%
Students will check the function of engine systems (e.g. electronic/mechanical) under guided instruction to diagnose faults - maximum 500 or 3-minute equivalent.

Design Process and Solution  60%

  • Part 1: Design Development and Planning  30%
Students will design and plan repairs to a vehicle system based on the condition of components measured in Specialised Skills Tasks - maximum 500 or 3-minute equivalent.
  • Part 2: Students create and evaluate the product/solution  30%
Students will conduct the repairs planned. This is an independent, practical based assessment with a written evaluation - maximum 500 words or 3-minute multimodal equivalent.
